QUÄSE · Kreuzworträtsel

A commercial, a kitchen, a crossword puzzle – and right in the middle, cheese made from quark. For Käserei Loose's QUÄSE spot “Kreuzworträtsel” (Crossword) I worked on set as set photographer. The film was produced by Lippert Waterkotte, directed by Alexander Mahfoudh of Drop Images, with Department for Film and Photo from Frankfurt as the agency.

The stills were shot on the film set and in the light of the film, with the same cast: a couple at the kitchen table, bread, herbs, tomatoes and, right in the middle, the QUÄSE packs. I shot the key visuals in my own slots and, wherever possible, alongside the camera – so the spot and the images end up with the same look.

Add to that top shots of the products: cottage cheese on farmhouse bread, chives, basil, lots of wood. An image that needs no people and still makes you hungry.

With a product made from quark, white is the real challenge. It must not blow out or turn grey – you should see how creamy and grainy it is. That is why the light is soft and comes from the side. And the hero is always the product: in the bite, in the hand, on the bread.
